5/28 Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire

Trying to catch up with this blog, but it takes me quite a bit of time to prepare photos and post them with commentary.  Hope someone is reading it.

Whitby Abbey is located on a bluff along the ocean in the seaside town of Whitby.  (Remind me NOT to go to any seaside towns during a school holiday week, as the traffic and number of people were horrible.)

Although there had been structure on this spot since Roman times, Whitby Abbey was built during the 11th Century and improved in the 14th -16th Centuries.  However, it was left to ruin after the Reformation and damaged substantially in both world wars.

Today, was cold, foggy, and windy, as it has been for several days.

This shows an earlier settlement during the Anglo-Saxon period.

This must have been a huge and impressive structure when it was built.

Believe it or not, there is a sea looking this direction.  Never did actually see it.
